The Shoe Box Appeal - Samaritans Purse

Samaritan's Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org) is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan's Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine.

Around October each year we support "Operation Christmas Child" which sends shoeboxes full of gifts to children all over the world who would not otherwise receive any presents. We usually hold a coffee morning around that time to raise money to send the shoeboxes and we receive boxes on that day or at the beginning of November during the morning service. Please check notices or contact Daryl Beaumont to find out the exact date.

For further details contact: Mrs. Daryl Beaumont.

FILLING A BOX FULL OF LOVE

If you wish to donate a box then you need a medium sized shoe box wrapped in Christmas paper (wrap the box and the lid separately).

Decide whether you want the box to be for a boy or a girl and what age group it is suitable for: (2 - 4, 5 - 9, 10 - 14)

Gifts that can be included are:

  • Toys: small cars, balls, dolls, small cuddly toys
  • School supplies: Pens, pencils, colouring books, writing paper
  • Hygiene items: talc, soap, flannel, hair brushes, combs, toothbrush & toothpaste
  • Other items: hair ornaments, small items of jewellery, small cuddly toys, socks, hats and gloves, sweets, lollipops and mints.

Things that MUST NOT be put in the box are:

  • Used items
  • War related items: toy or real guns, toy or real knives, soldiers (toy soldiers obviously, although if you do manage to fit a real Royal Marine Commando in the box, please contact the Ministry of Defense, they could save a fortune in transport costs!)
  • Liquids: Shampoo, lotion, or liquids of any kind
  • Medicines: vitamins, cough sweets, ointment
  • Breakable items: Mirrors, china, glass.

When completed then you can put a note and a photograph of your family together with your name and address (The child MAY write back to you) Also enclose an envelope with £2.00 to cover postage of the box. Label the outside of the box with the age and sex of the child that the box is suitable for and fasten with an elastic band.
