Bridge Builders...

As part of our work in the community we have introduced a sustainable ministry to schoolchildren. It is an intergenerational project where the older people volunteers in the congregation, engage with children within schools who would benefit from forming a relationship with an older person. Its aim is to promote a sense of social responsibility as a citizen because older people are able to support and nurture the young, whilst the young recognise that older people can become frail and need care as they age. This social responsibility promotes communities that support and value all of its members in a culture of respect and mutual understanding. It sees the young and old as active, participating members of their community contributing to the overall well being of those around them and creating more cohesive and healthy communities. The project has been helped by three people within the church offering their time and commitment to this project, also by the kindness and willingness of the Headteacher of the local school.
